Use the magic lasso tool to trace around the objectOn photoshop, how do you freely cut around an object in a picture?
by using the Laso located on the tool bar(2nd tool on the left) hold the tool for couple of seconds then itll pop diffted lasos select 'magnetic laso' then just simply carve your image or something with it.

or by using path located on the layer palette. hit Path tab hit the triagle on the side then hit 'new paths...' then itll bring up a dark grey layer. Then you go back to your tool pallete select your pen tool(located 8th tool on the left side)

now using the Path tool requires knowledge of photoshop its not for beginners so very much doubt youll use it.... Using the 'magnetic laso' will be great for you.
